Should the US increase or decrease the amount of temporary work visas given to high-skilled immigrant workers?
Skilled temporary work visas are usually given to foreign scientists, engineers, programmers, architects, executives, and other positions or fields where demand outpaces supply. Most businesses argue that hiring skilled foreign workers allows them to competitively fill positions which are in high demand. Opponents argue that skilled immigrants decrease middle class wages and job tenure.

@9FR42X9Women’s Equality8mos8MO
If we increase the amount of visas given out to skilled immigrants there will be better people in America and we will be more diverse also it would give those immigrants a chance to a way better life.
@9LFKBXJ2mos2MO
However, theu should be paid at the same rate as any other worker in that field, companies should be prevented from taking advantage of immigrants workers to steal wages as profits.
@9FS34DR8mos8MO
mmigrants are essential workers. Undocumented immigrants make up approximately 3.2 percent of the country's population, but the 7 million who are employed make up 4.4 percent of the workforce
@9LFKBXJ2mos2MO
And they should be paid at the same rate as any other worker in that career, a equitable, fair, livable wage.
@9LMN9SY1mo1MO
Research shows that skilled immigrants drive innovation, create jobs, and fill critical labor gaps. There’s a lot of trades in high demand and with this new generation there’s going to be a lot of jobs not filled
@9G6KGZC8mos8MO
Skilled immigrants travel to the USA to live a better life or have a better life for there kids. So giving them a job they earned seems like no problem
@ISIDEWITH8yrs8Y
Decrease
@9LYFHFL1mo1MO
The country would benefit from a diverse set of intelligent perspectives. My issue is with the definition of skilled often lying in level of college education, whereas I don't think that's always representative of someones abilities or intelligence.
@9LMN9SY1mo1MO
Immigrant are hard workers. They get stuff done in ways many americans can’t. I’d say skilled immigrants are highly valued if they’re all hard workers like most of them
@9GVNM2B7mos7MO
While some may advocate for decreasing skilled immigrants on the basis that they steal jobs from Americans, I disagree. Skilled immigrants do jobs that Americans can't and make our nation more globally competitive.
@9GBPT6Z7mos7MO
See the great innovators of the USA and the CEOS running fortune 500 companies. Import talent from the world to the US
@ISIDEWITH8yrs8Y
Decrease, and the government should provide more incentives to prepare our citizens for these jobs
@9G6KGZC8mos8MO
I feel that if immigrants are more skilled then they should get the job but, yes we should have more jobs for the american people but, can the government really do that.
@ISIDEWITH8yrs8Y
@ISIDEWITH8yrs8Y
Decrease, companies are currently taking advantage of this program to decrease wages
@99VCJX4Libertarian1yr1Y
It's astounding how many people don't understand this.
@ISIDEWITH8yrs8Y
@3PMDT3J4yrs4Y
the US is one of the hardest countries to get a skilled work visa, we want to be able to go overseas and work in other countries but we don't want to reciprocate. In the interest of cooperation, we should make it easier to get these visas, so that we can receive them ourselves if so desired.
@587QZFY4yrs4Y
Greed in America has college grads expecting wages that long time workers have...THERE is a thing about learning and starting at the bottom...and if companies can find foreign workers who appreciate what they are paid...that's ok...
@3PLD6WQ4yrs4Y
Increase the amount. There are so many jobs that high-skilled immigrant workers do that U S citizens would never do even if it meant unemployment for them. Businesses should not take advantage of these high-skilled immigrant workers by paying them cheap wages. I believe they should earn a fair wage.
@chickentaco4yrs4Y
Increase, but penalize companies taking advantage of this program to decrease wages. But only increase if we don't have enough skilled workers in the U.S. already.
Increase for the economy’s sake, but penalize companies that abuse this program to reduce wages and provide more programs to prepare our own citizens to compete for these jobs.
@99H6Y7Z1yr1Y
Decrease and ban asian immigration
@5H6V8BL4yrs4Y
The high-skilled standard is ableist and excludes immigrants who do not meet ridiculous standards. You can't place the value of a person on their ability.
@84ZWD6LLibertarian2yrs2Y
Increase, but reform K-12 curriculum + expand access to higher education (trade/vocational schools, community/4 year public colleges) to prepare Americans for these jobs
@9CYRMGF10mos10MO
Decrease and reduce the cost of the citizenship application process
@9L4Z23BIndependent 2mos2MO
Increase, there should be no limit for immigrants who are healthy, educated, and financially take care of themself
@Jones4Potus2024 9mos9MO
Increase, but make sure these immigrants are being paid the federal or state minimum wage of whatever state they are working in.
@9DWYW2B9mos9MO
Decrease and decrease oriental immigration
@9DL4ZD89mos9MO
Abolish quotas and switch to a point based system
Increase, but also provide incentives to prepare our citizens for those jobs.
@955PRWV2yrs2Y
abolish the visa program
@85QWNPG2yrs2Y
Increase, our population is set to decline in the coming decades and the only true way to stop this in a first world nation (of which we are barely), is to bring in high skilled foreign labor so that they may set up a family here and keep the economic flow moving. Currently countries such as Japan and Korea which sought to keep out much foreign influence on the economy are feeling the strain of putting that burden on an aging population.
@9GT9LJR7mos7MO
Stay the same, add incentives to make more Americans with a passion for more skilled jobs to take the risk.
@9GN5KWP7mos7MO
Increase for the economy’s sake, but also penalize companies that abuse this program to reduce wages and increase efforts to prepare our own citizens to compete for such jobs
@9FCKLN39mos9MO
Abolish the quota system and replace it with a point based system
@8RQRNPY3yrs3Y
Increase, along with a tougher stance against illegal immigration
@9BFVGHY1yr1Y
slightly increase high skilled workers. End all non skilled worker immigration. Deport all illegals
@David-Cooper2yrs2Y
If an immigrant who comes to America the correct legal way, and they were in a profession and had a college degree and their own practice/business, there is no reason why they should not be allowed to take a written and performance test and if pass, be given full permission to work or start their own practice/business in America.
@93V2CXP2yrs2Y
Decrease and ban high skilled immigration
@8L5XVS74yrs4Y
keep it unless it is low, if it is low rase it.
@8SYS9BX3yrs3Y
Keep the same but also provide incentives and programs for our own people.
@8L8YRGD4yrs4Y
Don’t know enough to answer
@934B86G2yrs2Y
Increase, our economies rely on businesses hiring high skill for low cost, but fix companies taking advantage of this to decrease wages, and the government should provide more incentive to prepare workers for these jobs.
@8V5LJ973yrs3Y
I am satisfied with the current amount, but realize that companies are currently taking advantage of this program to decrease wages and the government should provide more incentives to prepare our citizens for these jobs.
@8FJG3JW4yrs4Y
Increase or decrease depending on demand based on national applicants
@9MW35WN6 days6D
We should do away with the multiple visa system and instead reform to an Ellis Island immigration system.
@9MS62CQLibertarian7 days7D
Everyone has opportunities to gain the skills for these jobs & should be paid fairly. Whomever is best skilled should get the job, legally, paying taxes & paid fairly. (Assuming this higher education in the US gets sorted out)
