Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the House of Representatives to vote to give more aid to the embattled country, after the Senate passed a $95 billion foreign aid bill that included $60 billion for Ukraine earlier on Tuesday.
“I am grateful to every U.S. Senator who made a morally strong choice today. Such a choice matters right now, not just for Ukraine but for every nation whose independence is a target for Russian strikes, current and planned, including those planned for the coming years,” Zelenskyy said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“The next step is a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. We anticipate an equally strong moral choice and a decision that will work for the benefit of our shared security,” he added.
McConnell called on House Speaker Mike Johnson to allow a vote on assistance for Ukraine — adding that he wouldn’t be “so presumptuous as to tell him how to do it.”

What I would like to hear from people who oppose funding for Ukraine is what do they think a fair negotiated solution would look like. You know, like the one Trump says he could work out in 24 hours.
@HumanRightsMusselRepublican3mos3MO
Ukraine received $200B in cash and support and failed their spring offensive.
They cannot beat Russia. It's just the cold reality.
Time to accept a solution where the current lines are the new border. The Ukrainians would have been better off with the peace deal in 2022.
@ProportionalPenguinDemocrat3mos3MO
And if the US signs off on that, what will other countries think about how much support they can count on from us? Don’t you think they’ll just cut deals with our enemies that go against our interests?
@HumanRightsMusselRepublican3mos3MO
Our values are ours. They can align with those, or those of our enemies. Their choice.
We cannot allow ourselves to be subjected to blackmail and extortion to have allies.
We helped. They lost. It's over.
@ProportionalPenguinDemocrat3mos3MO
Russia is not our problem? What will other countries think about whether they can count on US support in times of trouble? And you don’t think the US’s own economic well-being depends on a stable world order?
@CaribouAbigailLibertarian3mos3MO
Our answer is "it's not our country, and not our problem: America First."
@R3dStateRobinRepublican3mos3MO
Just an observation: My online and DC conservative movement friends are all vocally opposed to funding Ukraine. My offline conservative friends who are not political activists from church, neighbors, and the community all support helping Ukraine against the Russians.
@TermiteLillianLibertarian3mos3MO
What do your offline friends think about helping Ukraine but sticking our grandchildren with the tab? This is my gripe.
@R3dStateRobinRepublican3mos3MO
1 Reducing geopolitical adversary ability to cause mayhem
2 stabilizing world supports our prosperity
3 strengthening global deterrence against bad actors for starting wars
@TermiteLillianLibertarian3mos3MO
I think my point is that I can’t get to those other issues because I’m simply not willing to fund the foreign policy through borrowing. Or certainly not additional borrowing. I think there are merits on both sides of the policy question on what to do in Ukraine. I just never get to that because I have put a line in the sand. No more supplemental spending that doesn’t have offsets.
@R3dStateRobinRepublican3mos3MO
If you don’t want to borrow, you could suggest revenue enhancements. It’s a choice: fund Ukraine through taxes, through borrowing, or don’t fund them. GOP (& some Dems) won’t raise taxes for anything, Dems (& some GOP) won’t let Putin have Ukraine, so we are left with option B.
@BubblyOilConstitution3mos3MO
Because the online and DC "conservative movement" types stop being anything that resembled traditional American conservatism and have adopted Nationalist/Populism as their bag while they continue to call it conservatism.
@GiddyL3gislatorLibertarian3mos3MO
You don’t think everyone might be gun shy, because whenever they ask question they get called a “Russia shill?”
Of course people are suspicious of Ukraine and its funding. No one has forgotten about Afghanistan.
@CentristJaguarLibertarian3mos3MO
When did it become ok for foreign governments to tell America what to do?
@HopefulCheetahDemocrat3mos3MO
Why do you not mind when it's Putin directing half of our Congress?
@Bip4rtisanEggsGreen3mos3MO
Since when is Zelensky an American or his opinion matter? This guy is out of his element. Lets back Ukraine but force a truce just months after they get the aid. Problem for Ukraine is Trump. He controls Johnson & many House R reps who wont vote for this aid nor a border bill.
@9JWXX883mos3MO
We should be supporting Ukraine even though not a NATO nation. Russia should not be allowed to invade a peaceful
country. Where will it end?
@SparklingLocustLibertarian3mos3MO
I recommend house pass this bill. Ukraine’s security is our and our ally’s national security. America doesn’t leave an ally behind. Russia needs to cave, pull out of the northern region, and negotiate for Crimea.
@9JWTBH33mos3MO
stop sending money over seas until every united states citizen is housed, fed, and given medical aid. On the same note, there should be a massive emphasis to increase high paying domestic-based jobs.
