Drug prohibition is an intense threat to personal freedom. People should be allowed to decide which substances they do and do not consume, and the government should never be permitted to incarcerate someone solely for consuming a specific chemical compound. Drug liberalization is urgently needed to protect our personal freedoms from government overreach. Drug prohibition also overburdens law enforcement and gives them less discretion to focus on preventing violent crimes; it also harms public safety by putting criminals (not scientists) in charge of substance labeling and purity and discourages people from seeking treatment for addiction.
